Things That Make Me Smile 9/22/17

Jake (11 1/2), Alyssa (9 1/2), Zac (7 1/2), Tyler (5), Nicholas (2 1/2)

Happy Friday! This week we celebrated Talk Like A Pirate Day, Leighton took the older 2 boys hunting, and Alyssa turned 9 1/2. Did you make sure to Smile this week?

1. Me, about Nicholas, teasing: "What are we going to do with that baby. I'm pretty sure he's trouble."
Jake: "Really? You're only pretty sure?"

2, Zac, about sea snakes: "God made these creatures really special."

3. Nicholas: "God go to fweep!"
Me: "God goes to sleep?"
Alyssa: "Well, the Bible does say that God rested on the 7th day of creation."

4. Nicholas, holding a play phone: "Beep boop beep boop beep. Hello? Gramma? Papa? Why you at your house? Hello, mateys!"

5. Nicholas, noticing that the TV remote was missing a battery: "Hey, what happened? Eberyone stole it!"
Me: "Everyone stole it?"
Nicholas: "Tink about it. Jakey stole it."

6. Tyler: "Nicky's fun to play with."

7. Zac explained a whole narrative of how Alyssa was mistreating him.
Me: "Alyssa."
Alyssa, sweetly: "Yes?"
Me: "Oh, don't pretend to be innocent. What's going on?"
Alyssa: "Well, Zac's not playing nicely!"
Zac: "She's being mean to me!"
Alyssa: "He's being like Nebuchadnezzar."
Me, trying not to laugh: "How is he like Nebuchadnezzar?"
Alyssa: "He gave himself gold and gave Tyler bronze. He thinks he's the best and better than everyone else, just like Nebuchadnezzar."

8. Jake got his second deer.

9. Tyler came inside with a scraped and bloody elbow.
Tyler, proud: "Mom, look!"
Me: "Oh, no. What happened?"
Tyler: "My body got ahead of the swing and I backwards flipped off. I liked the backwards flipped off part!"
Me: "Do you want me to clean it up?"
Tyler: "No, I just want to see it!"
{10 seconds later}
Tyler, whining: "Ow, ow, owie . . . It hurts. Ooow . . . Can you do it now?"
It didn't hurt until he saw it. A complete 180 with his reaction.

10.  Alyssa: "I have a feeling I'm going to be cold or hot. I'm just not sure which one."

11. Me: "Were you a good boy tonight at church?"
Tyler: "Uh . . . hmm . . . well . . . No. Yes . . . Kinda."

Things That Make Me Smile 9/16/16

Jake (10½), Alyssa (8½), Zac (6½), Tyler (4), Nicholas (1½)

Happy Friday!

1. Zac, after vacation: "I'm so happy to be home!"
Me: "Aww, why's that?"
Zac: "Because I looooove home."

2. Me, after vacation: "Are you happy to be home?"
Tyler, nodding: "You know why?"
Me: "Why?"
Tyler, smiling: "Because now we have a bookshelf."

3. Zac, after I told them we bought tickets to LEGOLAND: "I'm so excited my brain is going to pop out!"

4.

5. Me: "Your dad loved me even before he knew I could cook."
Jake: " Yeah, and now he reeeeeaaaallly loves you even more. I'd better marry someone like you or else I'm not going to survive . . . I know! I'll just come over here for dinner. And I'll repay you. You know how?"
Me: "How?"
Jake: "I'll bring your grandkids with me to your house."

6. Tyler: "Is there any plums in this orange juice?" (aka pulp)

7. Tyler: "Why is it called hangman? It should be called hang the man."

8. A child in our class at church, about a game based on speed between the boys and girls: "They're cheating! They're doing it faster."

9.  Jake got to go hunting with Leighton and shot his first deer.

10. Jake: "I'm so glad there's a Wednesday between two Sundays."
Me: "Why's that?"
Jake: "Because if there weren't, it would feel like forever until I got to go to church again."

Things That Make Me Smile 11/4/1

I have a Theory Thursday post to get up, but I'm waiting on Leighton to edit the video for me (he's so handy.) So, I figured I'd move straight to today's post for now.

1. The kids noticed Leighton's hunting gear when they woke up in the morning. They were very sad that he was going to be gone. When he called me a little later, Alyssa wanted to talk to him. I handed her the phone. She said in her whiniest, saddest little voice, "Daddy, can't you just stay home?"

2. Out of nowhere, Alyssa told me "I'm never going to flush myself down the toilet." Good to know, Honey. Good to know.

3. Alyssa was eating a fresh banana pepper and said, "Oh no, don't let Daddy see this food!"
Me: "Why not?"
Alyssa: "He'll be mad I'm eating his pepper."
Me: "He won't be mad."
Alyssa: "Oh, he's friendly?"

4. Alyssa: "My favorite color is chocolate."

5. Zac turned 2 yesterday. What a wonderful couple of years it's been! We celebrated a few weeks ago with the whole family. Yesterday, just the 5 of us enjoyed the day together. Every time I ask, "How old are you?" he says "free." I know that time goes by waaaay to fast for my liking, but I'm pretty sure I did not lose a whole year somewhere, right? No, Zac, not 3. You're 2. "Free."

6. Alyssa picked out the un-popped kernels from the popcorn bowl. She's planning to plant them and watch them grow into popcorn trees. If it works, I'll have her plant some dollar bills next.

7. Alyssa, whining: "I don't like these shoes."
Me: "Why not, Honey?"
Alyssa: "Because they hurt."
Me: "How do they hurt?"
Alyssa: "They hurt my feelings. I don't like black."
